Remove or hide Articles heading in Joomla

Hi to all and thanks for visiting this blog :).

Today i will show you how to hide or remove from showing the Articles heading in Joomla 1.5/1.7/2.5 or 3.1. There are 2 ways. One to use language overrides or to hack the core and edit a line in the php files. Don't worry all will be shown with screenshots and simple to follow step by step.

Use option 1 or 2 only if after you have tried to disable the "show / hide Article heading" option in Article manager > Settings and it hasn't worked for you.

I. Using language overrides.

First login to you Joomla backend (this works for all versions of J! -1.5/1.7/2.5 or 3.x).

Then go to Extensions > Language manager > Overrides

langManager-overrides1.jpg

After that: click on overrides > Create a new override or edit any previous created (like in the image below)

After you clicked on the add new or edit a previous created override you will see the screen:

editCreateNewOverride.jpgJGLOBAL_ARTICLES " without the quotes.

2 - Search for Value  should be set if not by default then please set this. (Note:This is important for our magical trick :) . )

3. Clieck on Save (for saving only, without closing the current screen), Save and close (for saving, with closing the current screen) or save and new (for saving, closing the current screen and create a new one)

After you have done these steps, go to Site MaintenanceClear Cache and / or Purge expired cache for applying the new site changes.

P.S. If you use any SEO / SEF extension for creating such links for your Joomla site like AceSEF  you should create a backup of all previously created meta tags, keywords etc as this could purge them as well.

II. Hack the core of Joomla

open you control panel of your hosting account and do these:

- Copy \components\com_content\views\article\tmpl\default.php
- And paste the file into \templates\**the_template_you_use**\html\com_content\article
- Open the file/download and edit it on your pc and look for <?php if ($this->params->get('show_page_heading', 1)) : ?>
- Change the 1 to a 0 save and upload if necessary

Purge the cache and that's it. Please note that after updating your joomla installation or template this could be replaced so you have to take a step and backup that file or if not you could also come back and read this blog ;)

If you like this blog entry i would appreciate if you share it with your friends, colleagues etc.
